Our Story
Yoga Exercise Science, aka ‘YES WELLNESS’ was founded by Dr. Don Miller & Janet Horn Miller in 2016. Don’s 38 year background as a Dr of Physical Therapy & Strength & Conditioning Specialist along with Janet’s 35 years teaching dance, gymnastics, resistance training, yoga, pilates & nutrition is the foundation of a very unique philosophy of functional movement focusing on individual's needs.
Together as THE DR and the YOGI they have committed their lives to helping others move well, eat well and live well.
Studio
Thanks for visiting our website!! As of 2023: We retired, sold our 12.000 sf building and closed our studio in town so we can travel and be students again ourselves!!! We offer small group and private sessions in yoga and Pilates, bodywork, sauna, InBody770 in our home studio.
Janet Horn Miller
Janet Horn Miller returns to her hometown of Shelby, NC after 30 years teaching dance, gymnastics, theater and yoga in Japan, Los Angeles, CA and Asheville, NC. She has a BFA in Dance from ECU, has been a certified yoga teacher since 1999 and owned several schools, camps and studios in addition to training many other teachers. Janet holds certifications from Duke School of Integrated Medicine in Yoga for Seniors, she has been a Bikram Hot Yoga-Ghosh Lineage teacher since 2005, she is certified in FMS (Functional Movement Systems) Levels 1 & 2 and Classical Pilates Foundations. Janet is former co-owner and founder of HOT YOGA ASHEVILLE and YES YOGA in Shelby, NC . In 2016 Janet together with her husband, Dr Don Miller opened YES WELLNESS, LLC inside Cleveland Physical Therapy Associates. Together they lead Yes Wellness Retreats and teach anatomy /yoga workshops. She has studied extensively with OptiYouRx nutrition for 9 years and co-hosts ‘THE REVIVE-THRIVE-OPTIMIZE’ podcast on YouTube.

In 2000 Janet was awarded California Parks and Recreation best teacher & best kids summer camp
In 2001 Janet was awarded Santa Monica Community Services best teacher award
As a teen Janet was a National DMA baton twirling champion
In 2014 Janet was voted Asheville Citizens Times best yoga teacher in Asheville.
Dr. Don Miller
Having been born in London and spending his high school years in Spain, Dr. Miller is not only well educated in human anatomy and physical therapy, but also in many different world cultures. With his love of travel and family in other countries, he has added to his US citizenship with English and Irish citizenship as well.
Dr. Miller graduated from The Chicago Medical School University of Health Sciences in 1987 with a B.S. in Physical Therapy and received certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) from the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Dr. Miller worked in a clinic located in the Chicago Bull’s training complex. He also served as the conditioning Coach to the Chicago Blackhawks and provided rehab services for members of Chicago’s NHL, NBA, MLB and NFL franchises.
In 1990, Dr. Miller relocated to Menlo Park, California, where he served as the team physical therapist for the San Jose Sharks of the NHL and continued to work with many Olympic and professional athletes.
Dr. Miller moved to Shelby, NC and founded Cleveland Physical Therapy Associates in 1994.
A life-long learner, Dr. Miller completed numerous continuing education courses, earned three different degrees in Physical Therapy and achieved multiple advanced specialty certifications. Dr. Miller is a board certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist, a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists (FAAOMPT) and holds a diploma in Osteopractic Rehabilitation. He also earned certifications in Spinal Manipulative Therapy, Dry Needling and the Functional Movement Screen – FMS and SFMA. Dr. Miller teaches anatomy workshops for PT’s, massage therapists, and yoga teachers. Don is also the medical coordinator for the American Legion World Series.
